Awesome. A single day has seen a 100% increase in the team size. Our resident CA on ILUG is around and committed. He will definitely jump in formally as soon as he gets around to reading this. And we need not just CAs. Accountants, business people, troublemongers, testers, jholers, etc too who can give practical inputs on their requirements. While current Packages dwell into the inventory aspects, not all needs of inventory management are met. Not all needs of reporting are met. Such individuals can provide valuable input for that too.
Accounting or programming is not my field but I personally feel that if any software project is to be kicked off then instead of waiting for people to say 'yes' and find the time to meet etc., you can do what Linux Tarvolds did. He posted his kernel core to the community and one by one they gave feedback and their own patches and contributions.
So first form an internet message group that can send heavy attachments without any limits. Then Satya can post his domain free accounting package code which will be tried and tested by those on the message group. Then feedback and patches will keep coming from domain guys and other experts and the code will grow in size and functionality, all without moving from one place to another.
If a platform independent accounting package is required, how about creating a bootable 'accounting only' operating system that will also have the ability to convert data to different known file formats. It could also be a live cd that can read/write to any existing file system partition.
Just a suggestion! All the best.

Rony.
