Hi.
We need to get a Dell SC420 up and running with FC2.
Has anybody installed Fedora on a Dell Server? It would be good to learn from somebody experienced with any compatibility issues that may arise with proprietary hardware.
So far the OS has installed fine. It has however not detected the onboard Gigabit Lan.
The server has an Intel E7221 chipset (based on 915G) with an onboard Gigabit NIC Broadcom BCM5751.
Problems encountered in installing the driver (Broadcom website):
- Compiled the src rpms - ok
- Installed rpm - ok
- Modprobe - Failed ERR-> ('no such command')
For the record we choose Fedora over Redhat EIS for which Dell charges 22K to be factory installed/supported!
Thanks.
Akshay
Did you run "modprobe" as root? If it doesnt find then locate the right path for modprobe by running "which modprobe" (obviously without the quotes). You'll most likely find it at /sbin/modprobe
