We are shifting out of Windows to Linux using Red Hat Linux (7.3) and Ethernet Cards that boot off the server
We have many (old) Mono VGA monitors (Make: Samtel / Microtek)
Under Windows 98 we get a full screen display by setting the following paramters in display settings a) 640 x 480 b) 60 Hz c) 256 Colours
Under Linux with those same settings we get a screen that leaves an empty area on the top and bottom i.e. screen display is not full screen.
If we use a colour monitor all is ok i.e. we get full display
Can we do the some settings (software / hardware / cable) to get fullscreen under Linux with a Mono VGA monitor -- basically we want to hold down the cost of the switch from Windows to Linux without investing in colour monitors
