*Minutes of August GLUG-Meet @ KRESIT - IIT*
The GNU/Linux Users Group of Mumbai held its August GLUG meet at KERSIT - IIT on 8th August 2004. Following discussions and talks were conducted.
* Venky Hariharan talked about the Redhat Scholarships Programme for the year 2004:
-> Overall response from different regions of the country -> Quality of projects recieved. -> About 900 projects received out of which finally 300 were selected in the first phase. -> How the scolarships programme can be improved with some good inputs from Nagarjun. Finally everyone agreed that it would be better that people from the industry should also be involved so that the participating students get a mentor.
* Nirav Mehta conducted a session on PHP -
-> An introduction to PHP. -> Smarty: The PHP Template Engine -> Nirav presented a hands on demo on his cool Mac laptop :-) on how to build a Website using Smarty in PHP titled "The Sholay Revolutions" .
* Discussion on the next meeting to be held in September
Date: 12 September 2004. *Agenda for September GLUG meet will be:* -> New perspectives in FLOSS, a talk by Rajesh Jain. -> RESTY.ORG - PHP app. framework & Revolution OS by Mitul Lambani. -> Screening of Python Movie by Kunal Bharti. -> Software Patenting issues.
-> New meeting places apart from IIT/MET/HBCSE are under consideration.
* The event concluded by distribution of Redhat Fedora Core 2 CDs by Venky as promised :-)
* Coming FSF Events: There is a full day program cum workshop (09:00 to 16:00 hours) on 13th Aug 2004 at Somaiya College of Engineering on Free Software to be conducted by Dr. Nagarjun. Interested people can check out the mails posted earlier on this mailing list.
