At boot prompt "expert26" will allow u to do almost everything manually which is a pain
so if i do medium26 will it give me the medium level setup menu?
and was it expert 26 or expert26 1 word?
one word expert26
can you explain more about tasksel? is it a command to be given from the prompt once the base installation is complete?
tasksel is a program run from shell once base installation is complete. if u select linux26 at the bootpromt at the beginning of install, installer will run it automagically for u after base installation.
and generally how do I get the menu for selecting packages? I think anurag was refering to typing linux26 at the boot prompt and then when the setup starts pressing the escape key. is it right?
That will give u various base install options. Not package selection after base installation. u can reconfigure the base installaion by running base-config.
I will try getting 4 cds of debian from some where and then try this installation. by the way will the menu selection also instruct me which package will need wich cd?
Yes it will. U can also use dselect or aptitude for an ncurses based package selection. Or kpackage manager or synaptic for a gui package installer. U can use alien to install rpms on a debian system or to convert rpms to debs.WARNING make sure that dependencies are met. U can occasionally mangle your system. The above are sort of parsers for dpkg, which is the supreme core which will allow u to mangle your debian system in whatever way u please.
