Hi! Pradeepto,
I would recommend that you seriously consider switching ISP. I have used sify in past and when you hit a problem its really difficult to get it resolved. Writing to list, making phone calls would prove futile, as the people managing the network are dumb heads (like most of the ISPs). Sify would have hired an equally dumbhead sysadmin or
I am considering a change, but I am not sure I have too many options in Panvel. I have triband ( I went to the MTNL office today morning ) and don't realy know if there are any other services here. Probably Tata Indicom.
Point here is if all ISPs are like that then where do we go? I know Sify was crazy enough at one point of time when it use to block 6667 since IRC is such a security threat. If anything, IRC is a time and attention sink :P.
'security consultant' who is blocking ports like anything. But problem with sify is, there executives dont listen at all. They cant understand things nor do they try to understand anything, unless you have a corporate connection.
Hmmmm .... I wonder if thats true. Some how I won't be surprised. One year back they had blocked login for all Linux users - I know many on this list had the problem and there were discussions in different forum websites. It took 7 days to solve the whole freaking issue. And by then the case was escaltated to "group leader" after which it was solved in exactly 30 minutes.
When things dont work out only resort with sify would be to move to consumer court (I know people in Delhi who have done this).
I have been wondering about this. Do you know what was the result of the cases? Did they win? Or Sify sent a car full of lawyers in their defence.
Cheers!
