You didn't get the point, did you, Satya? Nikhil had surmised that the problem was caused by a corrupted Linux CD, from which he had loaded RH 7.1 (the PCQ CD, actually). While a faulty CD *could* have caused this problem (my PCQ RH 6.2 CD came with, of all things, patches of glue on it, which led to similar seek errors till I cleaned it with alcohol), I figured that this was more likely an issue with his HDD setup, and so advised him to configure multi_io. That is the reason for the CD reference in my original post.

IIRC, this problem, while it could be caused by a faulty CD, can be fixed by recompiling the kernel
with
hda is unlikely to be his CD drive; if it is then he's got bigger problems.
hda is likely the primary master hard disk with his Win root and maybe Linux root. That's a different set of problems. It could be failing.
