other than discussing mail ettiquetes, flames and nitpicking, has anyone really gone around throwing in few good ideas at all ? Whether the OP deserves it is another point. However won't it be a good idea to just pitch in and have a free flowing discussion on technical stuff ?

Agreed that there's tons of material out there. However if you have experience in anyone of them could anyone give the student a good sizing/estimate ? I don't say give him a project ready, however give him pointers and a rough estimate on how much time it would take.
That is what he has to do - the groundwork.It helps him accrure and (hopefully) assimilate info. Let some student do that and several on the list will provide more than adequate support.
