Till I was using different distros of kernel 2.4.X, I had no problems but later distros running on 2.6.X kernels have this problem. This is some compatibility problem, atleast in my pc hardware.
I was running my laptop with a fresh debian install and 2.2 kernel and it was doing the same thing. I will try to compile a 2.4.x kernel and give that a try.
