hi friends,
i am trying a dual boot between redhat 9 and windows 98. i have a 80 gb harddrive. i partioned 40 gb of it and have left the balance un partioned. i installed windows which has 2 drives c and d. now when i was installing Redhat 9 the automatic partioning did not work. So i did disk duid but it only worked for making 2 partions only. so i made swap and / partion.
please tell me why i could not make more 2 partions, /home and /boot.
did i miss out on anything.
please incase u have tryed this out please help me out.
thanks a lot.
Hi , The reason why you couldn't make two more partitions is that "You can have only FOUR primary partitions".
Since your C: and D: as well as swap and / are primary so no more partitions can be created.
Solution : Make swap onwards partitions as LOGICAL Here's how your partition table will look
/dev/hda1 C: /dev/hda2 D: /dev/hda3 Extended ------------------- /dev/hda5 Swap /dev/hda6 / /dev/hda7 /home /dev/hda8 /boot --------------------
Or whatever order you may choose.
NOTE : It's my first post to this group. Linux Rocks :)
