Lets reach on consensus , and we hold the 8 th august meet at Onward Novell. let our luggers learn more on Novell.
Ha Ha. Novell could learn a thing or two from many of the guys here.
I totally disagree with Sir. Nagarjuna with all my respect for him, abt Redhat distributing CDs and other media, after all its a part of an exchange, and exchange between the Industry
Nothing wrong in distributing cds. But U need to distribute cds in places other than a lug meet, Like say Nasscom meets, or IEEE meets. U could use guerilla tactics and distribute em outside a Microsoft meets. But i suppose that would be down market tactics. So u can use more market savvy techniques like meets which u organise (they call em Seminars). Wonder why we never hear about such plans from RH, Suse etc.
About every months meetings my point of view would be:-
---cut---
- the alternative month venue could be any where,
would be a good idea if its with the industry, and major open source players like novell and redhat. (So Novell India meet on 8th is an excellent Idea).
I completely disagree on this issue. The term Opensource contaminates and sidelines the central issue which is freedom to share and not to be controlled by vested interests. All commercial organisations have been irresponsible at various points of time and have worked against the best interests of end users in pursuit of their short term goals. Redhat has done so (albeit a lot less painfully than others) in the past (was it gcc3.0-which-wasnt-gcc3.0). Maintaining a healthy distance from commercial entities (incidentally I too run a commercial entity) is very important. The recent fiaSCO is a case in point. And since u bring it up we must avoid meeting at commercial organisations premises. Neutral venues like HBCSE, MET, IITB, VJTI are welcome.
