You can try using Xandros. It came free with 'Linux For You' last month or before. It installs smoothly on a P4 and could detect my internal modem too, which even Enterprise Linux could not do and refuses to do so. I only use it for my study material. Xandros even has a free CD burner although speed is limited in the free version. Still something is better than nothing. Xandros loads within 30 minutes. It also has some nice wallpapers, a lovely desktop and a very important feature of reading my windows files in the file browser in Linux. I could open my doc and excel files from the my documents in the win partition into Open Office in Linux. Same with html files too. The only problem was with importing mails from my FAT partition which I believe was expecting too much from a free OS. Oh! and its got a screen capture utility too. It works out to be the most compatible OS for those used to windows and easiest for migration. It is only one CD.
Regards, Rony.
PS: Thanks to all those who replied to my earlier mail and gave their opinions. Thank you very much.

I have myself setup Linux on my P2 n times without getting this issue. On a forum, someone suggested that since it is new hardware, RHL 9 is the best bet.. instead of getting X updates. Don't know how true it is... I'm quite new to Linux.... sometimes when I get tired of Win.. I just go down this lane for a few days. Till linux throws up something like this, making me go back to the solitary option..
