location. Knowing your coords 31.62004 74.87638 does not really tell you that u are at the golden temple Amritsar.
Are there any public map server which translate co-ordinate to location / map for Indian Region?
google maps? or google earth?
No maps. Only satellite imagery. you can go about this in a reverse way. Browse to a known location on google maps and then extract the coords. Eg
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=19.196101,72.987344&ie=U... &z=18&t=h&om=1 will show u Shivaji chowk kalwa.
So using a combo of google and local knowledge you can create a fairly decent map.
The above url shows a map. a few seconds ago there wasnt one.
