Stand up and take note. Microsoft is innovating.
That's always been a joke.
I wonder why KDE/GNOME have been merely copying the Windows way of doing things instead of really "innovating". And now, what?
Because when they do something new (i.e. not the Windows way), people start complaining that it is "different" from what they are used to. Whenever someone complains that Linux is not easy to use, what that person really means is that it does not look and feel like Windows.

|Longhorn the name refers to a bar in Whistler, B.C. is supposed to
Wonder if the bar could sue MS and win?
|solve many of the frustrations with today's computers, including security
|vulnerabilities and the difficulty finding things stored inside |ever-larger hard drives.
It's not that difficult. People just tend to leave files in random locations, or throw things on the desktop.
|Longhorn also may change the look and feel of computers by taking |advantage of video and 3-D capabilities of new computer chips and graphics |hardware. |Early peeks have revealed colorful, transparent screen icons and moving
Which means it's going to look even more Tinker-toy-ish than XP.
|Computers built around Longhorn also may look different. Microsoft is |trying to play a bigger role in the design of computers by helping |manufacturers build machines that make the most of its software.
Thus screwing up everyone else's OSes, which won't run on these new computers. Talk about monopoly and locking customers into a single brand.
|Longhorn will also be the first new consumer operating system built under
|Gates' mandate to place top priority on improving the security, |reliability and privacy protection in Microsoft products.
Which means only that it will have DRM etc. built-in. 1984 is today, people.
|In the second bucket are new ways to use a PC. Those include new |applications Microsoft is developing and efforts to help other companies |build new programs for Longhorn-powered computers.
Thus making all your existing software and data incompatible. Locking people into MS's ways of doing things. Incompatibility is here to stay.
|The biggest change is to the file system that stores documents in the |computer. Longhorn's system will be based on a new database the company is |developing that is designed to make it easier to find, sort and retrieve |each document.
DRM and incompatibility. And makes it easier _for MS_ to find, sort, and retreive each document.
And when it talks about security, is it open source, tried and tested security? I bet not, it'll probably be MS's brand of "security". Defined as "the user cannot get at their own data, but MS can get at everyone's data". Whether they would want to or not is irrelevant.
