I think a few days back someone on the list requested for help on motorola sm6 modem driver.
Incidentally i came across this site,

where the user simply deleted a line in the kernel module source, recompiled and got the modem to work under Mandrake. (k 2.4.18)
M'be the person who wanted the driver can try the same.
