Hi i m planing to buy pc based on AMD 64. Can anybody of you suggest me which motherboard should i go for? i need one that is well supported in linux. the vendor has suggested MSI K8MM-V. Also there is an option for opteron with ASUS A8N-VM, which has nvidia 6100 graphics chipset. Please suggest me one which will work under linux flawlessly!! Thanks & regards Manish
I am using the MSI K8MM-V mobo. The only problem I had was dismal 2D performance on Gentoo in Fluxbox. I have no idea why that happened, but basically I tried using the mesa drivers because the Unichrome chip drivers were still being worked on. Mind you, that was on Xorg 6.8.2. The Xorg 7 and 6.9 batch is suppose to have the improved Unichrome drivers.
Anyway, FC4 and Ubuntu worked perfectly with the mesa drivers on the same mobo, so maybe it was something that I had managed to screw up.
Apart from the Unichrome graphics drivers issue, everything else is fine. It's a good mobo and it runs flawlessly under Linux.
