Does the system have two RAM sticks? If yes, then try removing one of them. A SUSE user with a similar problem has found that technique to work:

Thanks for the links, no i Just had one RAM stick ( 512MB ) , but what i did what i got a new RAM stick DDR2 512 MB ( from another system ) ... Then i installed Debian etch ( net install ) ..... ( actually a friend did the installation for me :-) ) ....... and it never gave any issue !!
BTW i tried the memtest86 ( recommended by Rony ) ( before changing the RAM ) it took a long time, but it kept repeating the test(s), i couldn't actually figure out what to look for !
