I think it is a case of incomplete proof reading.
I have read the article and saw Dr. Phatak's name spelt correctly in 2 places, only in the last instance did I notice the error.
It happens. Have we not all, at one time or another, sent out emails w/o checking for spelling errors?
Not entirely correct. I first checked and saw this error at all places. Sometime later, I saw the first instance corrected but the next two were wrong. And now - you seem to have seen another revision!
At another times, I saw another article on rediff about another professor at IITB, again with a spelling mistake!
This isn't simply an informal email. This is an important article on a well-visited website - and on the 'front page'! It's shows how reliable these reports (and reporters) are. In any case, the bias on various news websites/papers/channels is obvious to people who have even some knowledge of the topic in focus. For everyone else - well, they are simply misled my the media on many topics! It's all about sensationalism and eye-ball catching.
