For setting the hostname, you could try using the 'hostname' command. I've tried this myself and it does'nt work. What I did in the end is set the '/etc/sysconfig/network' file to the new hostname And also the '/etc/hosts' file to the new hostname.
After that you must reboot the computer and Voila, the comp has a new name :D
