Linux kernel is not proprietary. It is free software.

This device has been hacked by others but existing methods involve removing the hard disk, plugging the disk into a computer, mounting it etc... We need to be able to do it over a network, without requiring the user to take anything apart.
This could be a employee or consultant arrangement. For someone who can deliver, we are prepared to pay well ("mooh mange inaam"), within reason of course. :-)
