People only have to know if the decision affects reiserfs development. People do not have anything to do with this otherwise. It is not peoples' place to pass judgements in public over someone they're not remotely concerned with otherwise.
Correct. In this case the riserfs file system will most likely see it's slow / stalled progress IF the accused is convicted. Otoh gpld software has the remerkable ability to outlive things like developers, hardware, dependencies etc.
slow yes. stalled not sure coz after all its opensource :) .since novell supports / prefers / watever reiserfs they might have some developers fill in till.
i dont think this is OT coz i remember reading somewhere a quote from Hans that he chose to work for free s/w and it didnt pay well enough to sustain family. it was quite a dampener to read coz large orgs like osdl / ibm / rh / novell / oracle / sun etc etc etc have a responsibility to foster growth of free s/w through fostering growth of people by either employing them or if they donot wish to be employed by a commercial org then possibly have research / scholar grants for free s/w or opensrc
