I am thinking of going in for the new combo offer of MTNL which bundles broadband w/ local telephony.
From the discussions on the list (which I only skimmed over) what I need
to do is connect the adsl modem to my pc using ethernet and configure the card to use DHCP.
Any gotchas that I need to look out for ? They are providing a D-Link modem.
dhcp is not neccessary. U can disable dhcp and set a static ip (in the same subnet as the modems ip). The modems ip can be set to any suitable ip. The mtnl dns is dicey and goes down sometimes. Use a local dns. One issue will be blocking spam at the mtnl server. Downloading and filtering is pointless. Remember to change the default passwords in the modem and at http:\register.mtnl.net.in
