but $chmod +x INSTALL did not work. and the command #./INSTALL
just went ahead means after pressing enter.
[root@localhost pdf acrobat]# $chmod +x INSTALL bash: +x: command not found [root@localhost pdf acrobat]# #./INSTALL [root@localhost pdf acrobat]#
this is what happened.
can anybody tell me what to do. i am using Redhat 9

well, does the INSTALL file have executable permissions set? you can do
$chmod +x INSTALL #./INSTALL
