You need an operating system and a kernel: either GNU + Linux (which the faithful refer to as GNU/Linux or GNU + Hurd (which the faithful refer to as GNU or *BSD These terms have been long ago defined and accepted. Please stick to them. (unless you are deliberately trying to create trouble - in which case go ahead)
GNU=LibreSoftware. Whether it is an OS or an application. You are free to draw your own conclusions.
GNUCash, GIMP, GPG, GNU/Linux etc.
