No, I am not using any kind of network booting. This is a standalone IBM PC running Redhat 9.0 (kerner 2.4). The system changes it's IP after few hours.

rpm -qa | grep dhcp rpm -e { WHAT EVER DHCP PACKAGES WERE LISTED ABOVE } Use SuSE for heaven's sake if you don't want to bother with something this simple.
I don't see how using SuSE will automagically solve his problem. The problem is with DHCP and not the RedHat distro.
