The above has nothing to do with bitorrent, they are tcp connections to ports 6881-6889.
I tried to closely monitor this thing, as far i can tell, when ever this happens, download speed goes to 0 & then again increases. But some times i have to reset the modem.
You should not have to reset the modem and you should exercise some patience.
To get the max. out of P2P file sharing like bitorrent, you *need* to contribute back to the pool i.e. let other torrent clients connect to your system and pick up the chunks that are complete.
Have you opened up your firewall to allow incoming connections and port forward those connections (if needed)?
