The Aspire 1362 seems to be ok for his needs.
btw, are these they guys that advertise 'free linux is installed, but you wont get full functionalitiy until a *real* operating system is installed'? (emphasis mine)
Yes. I have asked them which paid distribution would work, or a BSD if needed (Windows not an option). They have not yet answered me on that.

So has someone actually got a working linux install up on one of these ? If so, I might be interested in buying one nmyself if we can shave off some price on a bulk purchase. I'm still thinking though :).
I've got some local dealer addresses from their website and will try to take alook at the actual piece before I actually make up my mind. I'm using a IBM 390X presently.
First, acer comes with a fully functional and paid RHEL 3 copy. The one I bought had 9 CDs. Second, I have already put Suse 9.2 Professional on 2 of the Acer Travelmate 290E laptops. It works without any problem. There is some problem with internal modems, you need to install slmodem. The problem with wifi is with drivers since the chip is acutally capable of working on restricted bands and US Government has prevented the company from releasing details of the chip needed for open source drivers. It is a temperory problem which will be solved in few months.
