Even for a small program like "Hello World" It makes a Makefile of some 100 lines.
I haven't used kdevelop, but a few things to know about autogenerated makefiles, especially those by automake is that they have rules for making your programs, for installing them, for uninstalling them, for running checks, for maintenance, and more.
