I read this at wikipedia but assumed, it ran only over DICT protocol.

Don't know about WORDWEB but stardict works great. You are using way too old Linux pal. Resolving dependencies on your version of Linux will be headache.

I'll try and resolve dependencies, if any. I know, I am using way too old GNU/Linux. I plan to buy a new HDD next month and would be installing Fedora Core 5 and Kubuntu on it. Possibly, would be successful on dual booting.
