http://counter.li.org/reports/uptimestats.php says that the longest running Linux machine has an uptime of an incredible 6011 days as of 2003-06-05 17:35 hrs. Two questions:
- Since how long has Pentium been around?
- Since how long has Linux been around?
Skeptical. Is it possible that they're adding up the uptime for each processor on a multi-processor box? :-) It may still be hard to get 6011 though.
Maybe. According to the entry the machine was running kernel 2.4.20, which means the kernel was regularly upgraded. I'm not aware of any Intel machine allowing upgrades to the kernel while still running.
Well, today the machine has been removed from the list of longest running machines and it just says that the longest uptime ever observed was 6011 days -- which may imply the longest uptime ever for any machine running any OS.
