What about yanking it gently with a broad flat screw driver?
That is the first thing I have tried. I have also tried chipping the dried gel with a blade. No joy.
I will try JTD's rubbing alcohol suggestion and hope it is a success.
I also contacted AMD tech. support regarding this dilemma and they were not very helpful. They asked me to open up an online RMA wherein the s/n p/n etc. is required -- all that stuff is on the plate that is glued to the heat sink! It took three tries before the chap understood my problem and then he said he can do nothing w/o s/n + p/n.
