Rony had advised me to try editing the printer selector in each application. I tried doing this with Mozilla, but cannot see the right way to edit the module using a line editor. Siddhesh also asked whether I was setting up OpenOffice for the printer, but I haven't done this, nor can I see how it is done. The OpenOffice installation was done long before the printer arrived.
Excuse me if this has already been thrashed - I am picking up this thread late.
Linux apps pick up the printers and their resp. settings from the "printer subsystem." The CUPS package provides this functionality in the current distros. Earlier, it was LPRng or LPR. I suspect, the root cause of your printing problems is in the settings for this package. Which package does RH9 use?
