Actual download speed is not a constant and varies with the no of users logged in. So it cant be mentioned.

I read in PCQuest actually, ( a long time ago ), that the signal to noise ratio in telephone lines does not allow a bitrate greater than 33 or 36K using modems. i believe its somthing to do with the information carrying capacity of the lines, physically.
BTW has anyone compared the performance of a dialup account while using Windows and Linux ??
I have tried this and although i dont have data to prove it, windows offers a much better throughput. ( vsnl account )
