I have just installed Red Hat Linux 9.2 . i have a problem with Sound Card Detection. When i click on System Settings > Sound Card Detection , it says "NO Sound Cards were Detected"
IIRC, there is no RH v9.2. There was SuSE 9.2 ( i think ) but no RH 9.2. Anyway, I am assume you mean RH9.
i have an Intel 865 MB with on board Sound.
Hmm...I have the same motherboard. RH9 didnt recognize my soundcard as well. When RH9 was released this motherboard was very new so no drivers were available. RH9 uses the 2.4 kernel so if you need to use your soundcard then you have two options: 1. Download the drivers for your 2.4 kernel and recompile the kernel. 2. Upgrade your kernel to 2.6 and you'll automatically have these drivers.
The latter options is very risky as a typical RH kernel has 200+ patches applied to it and you can never say what will break it. I realized this the hard way when I got my sound back but in the process my DRI stopped working :/
But you can ditch RH9 and upgrade to FC5. It will rock you!! Or upgrade to atleast FC2. I am currently using it on my desktop which has the 865 motherboard and I have no issues :)
