Hello,
I edited the /etc/inittab file so that the INIT run level is 5 by default. When my machine starts, it boots normally upto the command line interface login prompt and then tries to start X. It is unable to do so successfully - the screen keeps flickering and sometimes shows a large X in the middle.
I tried to come out of it by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F1 and Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. None of these work. I have to invariably type Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot.
I tried to boot from the PCQLinux 7.1 CD ROM and go into "linux rescue" mode but the system would hang after displaying the message "Starting anaconda...please wait".
Is it possible to change the INIT run levl at boot time by passing the appropriate command to the kernel?
If not, what is the solution to this problem? I cannot get any work done at all because of it!
Thanks. Parul Mathur
