The purpose of this thread is to move further from where we had left it in the earlier one and as suggested by Dinesh Shah, discuss how we as FOSS people can provide alternate solutions to the shortcomings of the current system. Lets keep this purely technical and not pro or anti Aadhar.
sorry it is impossible to divorce technology from ethics and policy. Aadhar violates freedom, and the less foss is (ab)used by it the better. Like saying 'I have no objection to the reintroduction of the facilities at Aushwitz as long as the technology used is open'
Since freedom and civil liberties are an important issue, could we list some practical imaginary examples where the UID can be used by the Govt. to hound people it does not like? Along with that, how would it currently do the same without the UID.
IMHO, even with the PAN card and Address proof currently in place for official transactions, if a person is running from the law, he is not going to flash his PAN card and Passport everywhere he goes. Plus today the easiest way to track people is via their cell phone locations.
