Any pecial settings involved for installation ??
Winmodems work fine on any GNU/Linux box. And the kernel requirement of 2.4.x is applicable only (?) for the Motorola drivers. I've used my winmodem using the Lucent Technologies' ltmodem on a Slackware box running 2.2.16. And the throughput was generally far better than what I got from it in Windows. Don't know about the 'special settings' for the Motorola sm56, but ltmodem required kernel-headers to be installed and loadable module support enabled.

Hi all,
Yesterday I installed winmodem, motorola sm56, on my linux box. It works fine. But I can use it as a root only & not with other users. How can I give permision to my other usrs to use the modem?
Change the permissions of /dev/modem [or your appropriate modem device] to world read.
