The Setup: Package: Tata EX-NexGen Accounting Client Server Version 1.5A (thick client) Database used by EX is SqlServer 7.0 Platform: Server: running on Windows XP Pro. Clients : running on Windows 95/98/XP/Win2000.
Goal: To minimize Windows dependency and move to non window platforms and software.
Limitations: Accounting Package cannot be moved from EX to something else due to the retraining cost/time of staff on a new package. TCS has no plans of moving to linux anytime soon or even late.
I was suggested these 2 options: Wanted to know if there is any detailed documentation on how to actually implement it. Option 1: To use a windows terminal service and have the other clients (converted to linux) act as dumb clients and access the EX program on the server itself. Constraints: Windows XP Pro does not have terminal service....?? & incidently since multiple copies of EX opened on the same machine do not count towards the license # so we bypass that count.
Option 2: Use a windows emulator so it can function properly and run EX on linux.
Any ideas?documentation on how to implement a windows emulator as that seems to be the better option..unless someone thinks otherwise.
Thanks in advance. abhishek
