In Debian if you put in a usb pen drive, it loads it but has to be accessed in a browser by entering its path. In Ubuntu it shows a nice icon on the desktop that you can double click. There are more examples but I can't recollect them all. Debian is excellent for console. Ubuntu for GUI. I don't want to comment on Etch testing's gui. :P
I never used command line to mount a pendrive in Debian Etch.
