hi,
In order to port the kernel to a new microprocessor architecture, i need to write the machine specific code for the routines in the /arch directory. is that all, or other source files are to be modified as well?
note that i am not specifying any arcitecture, and leaving the question very generic. i want to know how much effort and skill one has to put to port the kernel. What all changes/addendums has he to make?
regards, anand saha.
you dont have to chnage the whole source code...the arch directory was made for that very purpose ...portability with little changes...the other source files would call sys_calls whose definitions are there in the arch directory so u have to change only /arch and everything will fall in place...but i think the /arch dir covers a wide range of architectiure.
