apologies for improper use of the language, was used to the sms lingo. extremely sorry. i have reframed my issue:- i had installed kubuntu recently n then ubuntu too(both from the cd), and in both, i could not use the internet, oculd not open web sites. i downloaded the sify installer for linux, dn followed te instructions as was written in the manual/readme file. i set the ip, dns everything but i still could not use the internet.when i logged in, it woud simply show the timestamp ,nothing further. could u help me out pls
i got the reply when "ping"ed the gateway, but when i tried logging in using the sify installer, it would simply not connect, it is supposed to show my account details,etc., but it would simply not do so apologies again to mrugesh n vihan

Call up the Sify CC and ask them to change your account to use the old protocol.
After that, run the sifyd daemon when your ethernet device is up and running and login.
What error does it give you anyway?
And btw, `n' and `dn' is still SMS lingo and extremely unwelcome ;)
