AFAIK IPV6 isn't being used yet. And I don't really think it does anything to shrink the number of routing table entries. Address Summarization with CIDR is about the best thing that ever happened in that direction.
Plus the routers interior to an area are shielded from the outer network by the Area Border Routers using some EGP, typically BGP. ciao Abhijeet More
