I want to add the Debian DVD to Ubuntu's repository. To that end, I've copied the proper entry from Debian's sources.list to Ubuntu's sources.list. However I need to add some files to Ubuntu's /var/lib/apt/lists. They are the Debian counter parts of the following files :-
Ubuntu%204.10%20%5fWarty%20Warthog%5f%20-%20Preview%20i386%20Binary-1% 20(20041020)_dists_unstable_main_binary-i386_Packages
Ubuntu%204.10%20%5fWarty%20Warthog%5f%20-%20Preview%20i386%20Binary-1% 20(20041020)_dists_unstable_main_binary-i386_Release
Ubuntu%204.10%20%5fWarty%20Warthog%5f%20-%20Preview%20i386%20Binary-1% 20(20041020)_dists_unstable_restricted_binary-i386_Packages
Ubuntu%204.10%20%5fWarty%20Warthog%5f%20-%20Preview%20i386%20Binary-1% 20(20041020)_dists_unstable_restricted_binary-i386_Release
I've found them but they are named simply Packages and Release in the main and contrib folders on the DVD. How do I get the details to be filled into the new filenames like the files above?
And I probably need to edit /var/lib/apt/cdroms.list file too. At the moment it contains :-
CD::1e4d30e8e87d2707e1cb71bd2cd0fa53-2 "Ubuntu 4.10 _Warty Warthog_ - Preview i386 Binary-1 (20041020)";
CD::1e4d30e8e87d2707e1cb71bd2cd0fa53-2::Label "Ubuntu 4.10 _Warty Warthog_ - Preview i386 Binary-1 (20041020)";
Currently, Synaptic doesn't detect the Debian DVD.
And lastly, can I set the preferences so that Synaptic will look into Ubuntu's own repository first and then into Debian?
Any help or pointers to help will be appreciated. TIA.

Why dont you try "apt-cdrom add" instead of manually editing files?
