Dear all,
I think my Internet usage (MTNL Triband) has increased ever since I switched over to Ubuntu! Earlier when I had Windows XP I could disable Triband by right clicking the Internet connectivity icon on the bottom right of the screen. There is no such blinking icon on Ubuntu and the net stays on even while I want to work offline. How to get this so that I can switch off Internet when I want to work offline?
regards shiv kumar

In Ubuntu you can go to, System -> Administration -> Networking. There click on the interface (most probably eth0) and click on Deactivate. Click on Activate if you want to enable the interface again.

Just want to conifrm if 'poff etho' works, if someone wants to do it from CLI, in this case or some other command is used?

pon/poff should work if you have a modem link. If the OP is using adsl modem in bridge mode then `pon/poff dsl-provider' works just fine. Otherwise in case of ethernet connection, `ifup eth0' and `ifdown eth0' can be given from cli.

The MTNL triband also comes with a power pack that can be switched OFF or ON as required.
