hi luggerz We have an institution where the computers and IT deptt is new and there is a lot of enthusiasm pertaining to linux among the staff. We have a spl linux lab set up. But the prob is that linux is new to everyone. there are a few ppl like us who have attended seminars but we still are learning.
i would like to sugggest that some of u plz visit us and hold a seminar for linux. Trever & Dr. Nag held one such seminar in the feb wherein we were introduced to linux and the i-lug bom. but very few ppl attended that since it was organized by the automobile deptt. Now we have around 200 students who have a whole linux lab to their disposal but dont know what to do with it. I ensure a much better response this time...
adding to this, we have a college closeby in a similar situation and we can organise a seminar there too. two engg colleges in one shot...
this was painting a very rosy picture... the downer is that the college is at abt 7 hrs journey from mumbai, but in feb trevor n dr nag were here :) what do u guiys think Gurpreet

I volunteer, subject to academic pressures.
Sameer.
Great idea , I think you should get in touch with IIT students , there they use LINUX and do lot of experiments .
You guys can also do experiments on those machines , thinking of scenarios or better u can try solving the problems of the people here on LUG by emulating the problem and trying to get a solution.
Ciao tapesh

[snip] Hello Luggers,
Lemme add to the topic aldready under discussion. Sometime ago Dr. Nagarjuna, Dinesh and me had been to Sangli to conduct a 2 day WorkShop on gnu-linux. It was quite an enriching experience and educatiing for us too on various fronts. The enthusiasm of the youngsters wanting to learn gnu-linux and being so receptive to the idea of Free Software meant a lot to all of us from the Ilug-Bom.
At the end of the workshop we had completed with half of Hands on Installation for all of the students. And i am pretty sure that some of them pple who Grasped some of the Basics are still around.
Instead of making it to the college again and conducting another workshop, i should suggest that now Rajaram Bapu College of Engineering form their own Free-Software Cell which would consist of Like minded pple interested in propogating the concept of Free Software and also have an Open Forum for solving Technical Problems related to Free Software implementation all over their own college and the surrounding colleges too.
IF NEEDED, we can have a bootcamp in Bombay conducted by the Ilug-Bom and SPEARHEADED by the luggers who were ready to spare some time towards this noble cause. This bootcamp could cover teaching some core members of the College the core skills required to setup/maintain the servers/setup of the Labs and also indulge them in a HOWTO on setting up a local Free Software grp in college.
I think this is the right thing to do, since after a 2 day workshop @ Rajaram Bapu C.O.E by now some of the core canidates should be bold enough to Spearhead the Free Software Campaign with some amount Hand Holding from our side. I
I sincerely doubt re-conducting the whole workshop episode again.
