Yeah it does take quite a lot of bandwidth. But everything runs fast once you do a custom compile. I had done a kernel compile using ck sources and multimedia apps ran considerably faster.

See that's also one of the ideas of having sources available, compile according to your needs and optimizations :). And you actually end-up learning quite a lot of how various pieces of software made by different people fit together.
