For Windows you can do NT Domain PDC (NT4) with Samba. Google search for "sambaldaptools"
Mac OS X integrates quite well with openldap.
The sambaldaptools is really helpful in managing Unix/Windows user environment.

Fedora has a project to create AD implementation in Linux. Its called (Fedora Directory Server).
Details : http://directory.fedoraproject.org/
Are you looking at globally replicated servers or all AD servers would be in the same geography. Replication does not work well with FAD / Samba at the moment.

Hi,
I seen the 389 Directory Servrer's docs....but it looks for high scalable environment..can i use it for about 60 system network.

60 systems with presumably 60 users is a small environment.

Are you capable of really implementing that?. My doubts arise seeing you inability to NOT TOP POST. Aka follow simple instructions.
Samba PDC works well - 500 + systems

Please make up your mind. IIRC, in your OP you wanted to ADS and now are saying PDC - different beasts.
Both can be done for a few nodes/users or scale to thousands.
I would suggest that you experiment with the package that you have found to suit your requirement(s). The number does not matter.

Oh God. My reply was a semi humourous barb to make you aware that you are top posting and not triming your mails. As you can (hopefully) see in this mail (and the previous ones), my reply is posted interleaved, that is, my reply lines are directly below the relevant lines of the mail i am replying to. One of the requirements of a succesful linux app deployment is following simple tasks. The simplest tasks being searching google, reading manpages. Asking for help and replying to mails on a mailing list will also qualify as a simple task preceded by reading the list guidelines.

Btw in the GNU/Linux world what works for 500 also works for 1 and for all whole numbers inbetween. I am not sure about 0, -1, 3.1414....

I'm planning to take a different, gentler approach: when a top-poster asks for help I can provide, I will tell him that I can solve his problem, and also tell him that I won't since his lack of etiquette offends my sensibilities. If enough people start doing that, the top- posters will either learn or disappear.

There is an additional problem of the new users not knowing the term 'top posting'. When I was new to the list I thought top posting meant a long subject line. I kept trimming the subject line to finally one word but still got reminders to not top post. Then Philip sent me a mail describing top posting and that was it. :-)

While most people abide by mailing list etiquettes, I am of the opinion that the content of the poster is more important than format.
If the poster is adding value to the discussion; that IMO is more valuable than the form. Of course, the poster can be gently reminded about adopting mailing list etiquettes.
In my early days of participation in USENET (late 80s) and mailing lists I was guilty of such "offences" but learnt the right way over time. On a few occasions, my posts were adding value to the discussion but they were rejected by the admins simply because it was not in the "right" format.
My two cents. -- Arun Khan

I remember when BLUG was alive, there was a draconian policy of moderating top posters - I am ashamed to say that I was a lead nazi in that movement. I remember being moderated once because I did not trim under the post and another time because I did not leave a blank line between the quoted matter and my reply. I had written a script to periodically scan the lists I was member of and calculate the percentage of top posts. We brought down the blug lists from about 70% to around 1-2%. I now only protest against top posts when they mess up the thread. I used to reformat the top posts when replying - but found it too much work and also the posters *still* did not understand. So let us continue with gentle persusasion.

Well, if you were being sarcastic, let me dispel your assumption. It wasn't due to the draconian top posting policies. If you really want to know and if someone feels like narrating it, you might just get a history lesson about FOSS in India, which IMHO, makes for a good movie script :)

Frankly this top posting bottom posting stupidity should be history. Use an email client which can fold the text of old emails/thread properly and it would stop matter-ing. For me with gmail bottom posting is pain! I would rather top post as it is faster. When you really need to reply to something post inline.
anyway

The discussion has moved from ADS to mailing list etiquette :)
One has to make a little bit of effort and then it becomes second nature.
I use Gmail's web interface for all my mailing list membership including composition of this post.
No problems with bottom posting or inter leaved posting. When I click on "Reply" the entire content of the message is quoted and the cursor is placed at the bottom. I then go about editing the quoted text just as I would in KMail.

please refrain from bottom posting - posting inline with trimming of unnecessary matter is the way to go.

In the FOSS world stupidity is always history. Have a look at this link and observe how organised the posts and replies are. https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15528 On the Linux lists everywhere, the same practice is followed and that makes yours, mine and all our lives easier when we are stuck with some problem and require help on the net. The issue is not just top or bottom posting but interleaved posting where you trim your original text and reply below the relevant text. If your devices do not support proper formatting of messages then it is natural that such devices should be avoided for use on this list. If 2 or 3 wheelers are not allowed on the Expressway, can they force themselves on that road simply because their owners want to use them? Mobile devices are convenient but there are places where we avoid using them or even switch them off.
