hi i just loaded linux 7.1 on my machine and cant seem to get the sound running nor am i able to connect to the net cause linux was unable to find my modem so if someone could let me know what to do or give a url frm where i can get the required drivers for the sound i'd be thankful Namit.

There's no Linux 7.1. Last I heard was Linux 2.4.7.

Linux doesn't have Plug & Pray technology.
What program are you using to connect to the Net? I suggest you go with WvDial, or one that is supplied with your distro. WvDial will auto-detect your modem.

Generally, you should look up the LDP site for howtos (http://www.linuxdoc.org/). If you don't get the solution you can ask here (describing the effort you put into solving the problem - that helps us help you better).

Yep. You probably mean RedHat 7.1. Anyways, for sound, try running sndconfig. And, on the modem front, read the modem howto and then report the problem a bit more accurately. For plug-n-play hardware, you need the isapnptools package installed.
