Hi,
I'm struggling with DFE-538-TX card for diskless setup. Can anyone suggest which bootrom chip should I try.
Will PXE and dhcp-3 will work with dfe-538 Tx cards? I'm not able to find ATMEL and EERPRO in the market.
Thanks ----- Krishna

This card from Dlikn seems to be a realtek 8139(a/b/c) based clone. Have you tried with realtek8139too ?? Give it a shot.

The problem is not the kernel module(8139too is for 2.4 and 8139 used to be for earlier 2.2 series), but the bootrom (etherboot, lz images). One of my friend had earlier tried getting 128k and 512k bootrom chips and burned them using 8139 images from etherboot site. But the dhcp server somehow does not recognise them(not bootp is runing only dhcp-3). What could be wrong?
Has anyone able use Dlink 538 TX (8139, lspci -vvv does not say that its a/b/c series cards). If I dump Dlink cards then which one should I buy? Earlier I used to use Intel eepro100 with ATMEL 512KB series chips but the ATMEL chip is not available at the Lamington Road.
Also, the bios shows PXE option but when enabled, the machine does not show which PXE version or it does not give any message related to PXE? Do I have to do something to enable this on the Dlink card? And on the server when I do tcpdump | dhcpdump is segfaulting, (debain 3.2 unstable)
Any suggestions? ------- Krishna

Your server is Debian unstable? How did you build it without the NIC?
