I don't get the point of this discussion. I use a cheap nokia phone with opera mini and have not had issues bottom posting. People are just being lazy.

bottom posting is as bad as top posting - we need interleaved posting with proper trimming of replies

should members violate list "rules" just because some fancy gadget does not allow them the " luxury " of doing the correct thing.

Well, you're right if it's a list 'rule'. Sadly it's list 'etiquette' he's
not following. If you're allowed to be rude and nitpick on a mailing list, surely top posting using a mobile phone is a forgivable offense.

This reminds me of an incident that was narrated by a Professor to our class. He said, a student once asked him that if there is a sign "We request you not to smoke", does it mean that it is only a request and one need not actually follow it. ;-)

Smoking is banned in colleges which makes it a rule. Maybe chewing gum is a better parallel? :)

A more important qustion is - do you only want techies here or users also ? If you want users also, then you have no option but to allow top / bottom posting from people like us who use mobiles to send out most of the mails. If not then you will be stuck with a pure tech group, which is not necessarily going to achieve the target of making linux more popular among users (assuming that is a goal at all)

We definitely need users who can listen, are willing to learn and improve themselves. But I don't think anyone would want users who say: "I don't care what you say about rules, what I do is always correct"

I do not think that is a goal for most of us - I am in this list to keep in contact with existing linux users, and also to avail of the vast hardware related expertise of members here.
ps - please trim your posts

Neither are. luggers are supposed to be responsible. Nitpicking depends on each individual. We have on this list the spelling nazis, the grammar gestapo, the mobile lingo mutawas etc. Use of any of these are irritants. But posting without trimming and interleaving is a WASTE. There is a very big difference between waste and irritation.
